Cardiac
Rehabilitation
The Heart Club at Hamilton Hospital is a cardiac rehabilitation
program for those with a history of a recent heart attack,
chest pain, bypass or heart valve surgery, or coronary angioplasty.
The length of the program varies depending on the participant's
diagnosis, abilities and progression in the program. The program
consists of exercise, education, and risk factor modification.
A multidisciplinary team approach is a unique aspect of the
Heart Club. Participants are provided with an exercise regime
prescribed by their physician and supervised by registered
nurses. They also attend group educational sessions to increase
their knowledge of cardiovascular disease and risk factor
modification for promoting heart health. Family members and/or
significant others are encouraged to attend the educational
sessions, too. Individual sessions may be arranged on an "as
needed" basis.
